More like L A S T!

Well guys, this is it. The day of reckoning is finally upon us. The series finale of Lost is tonight. Starting off with a 2 hour recap of everything that has befallen our brave Losties. Followed by the main event, a 2 and-a-half hour long finale. As an added bonus, Jimmy Kimmel Live is right after with special Lost themed goodies such as alternate endings and appearances by cast and crew members. Chances are shit's gonna be tight.

So as fans around the world gather around their television sets for what is to be one of the most bitter-sweet moments in their lives, I wish you all a pleasant night and remember to tag your spoilers.

The Good, The Bad and the Neutral: T.V. Time

It was an eventful week in television. For some, it was a dreaded goodbye to their favorite series, for others it was the fear of seeing their favorite show driven into the ground and for some... well, for some people it just doesn't matter.

*spoilers ahoy!*

The Good

It was a long time coming but it's finally official. Heroes is dead. I am not too bothered by this. I did like the first season of Heroes a lot but the show just went to utter crap after that. It's not like I even followed the show since the start. I just decided to mix into my bonanza of shows to watch last summer.

I definitely understand how hard this must be for a lot of fans. The fourth season was left wide open for some kooky adventures. Although, it was rather ambiguous. Now that Claire finally reveals to the world that people with superhuman abilities exist. It can be left to the fans to interpret on how the world would react and how it would affect the future of the series.

Whatevs. The series was really bad at that point. It had to die.

The Bad

Chuck was renewed for 13 more episodes in the next season. This could spell out some trouble for the show. Don't get me wrong, Chuck is one of my favorite shows. Which is exactly why this irks me. In it's currently ongoing third season, right around the middle I'd say, the whole will-they-or-won't-they between Chuck and Sarah thing was beginning to become stale. This accompanied by some off-beat plot devices and poor writing decision had me worrying about the direction the show was going. Luckily, it picked itself back up by finally making Chuck and Sarah a couple and now this whole "Chuck is going crazy with a brain meltdown thing" is pretty sweet.

I'm just concerned of the show losing it's pace again and eventually getting the axe for sucking. I would rather have had it end this season as it seems like it'd be a nice and fitting conclusion with buckets of closure.

So yeah, I'm glad Chuck is coming back. I just hope it stays as awesome as I've always known it to be. Here's hoping.

The Neutral

In news that is probably of no interest to anyone ever, FlashForward was cancelled. I heard from a bunch of people saying the show was good at the start but then just delved into silly goosery.

I guess that about wraps it up. Oh look, Chuck's on. Might as well enjoy it while it's good.

P.S. If you're wondering about the way I titled and formatted this blog post, I'm thinking about making this a regular feature. Think of it as my way of just covering the geeky news around the world. Maybe it will follow a theme like this one, maybe not. We'll see.

A Shift in Perspective

A magical thing happened today. I rediscovered a part of myself I didn't know I had lost. Before

this post gets any sappier, let me explain myself.

I'm a big Harry Potter fan. As such, I have made it my sworn duty to attend every Potter event a.s.a.p. amongst my other witch and wizard companions. Lately though- around the time of the release of the fifth film- I hadn't been feeling the wonderful sensation of wishing to be wept away to a world where magic was real and Hogwarts was a place where I can go live out my wildest adventures. I knew this was happening. I simply chalked it up to the process of becoming older and left it at that. Harry Potter was just not something I was pre-occupied with anymore. Sure, I still went to see Half-Blood Prince at midnight but nothing was the same ever since the book series ended. I left the theater feeling empty. Since then, with the last two films approaching and a theme-park very close by my home almost read for public release, I just felt nothing. The adventurous wizard in me that would have wanted nothing more in the whole world than to be Harry Potter was gone. Then something inside me clicked.

I was watching t.v. A commercial came on for Half-Blood Prince where it showed off the major characters in the Great Hall. As I was watching this, I felt a gaping whole inside of me as I came to the sudden realization that I freaking love Harry Potter. I love Harry Potter so much that it pained me that the last experience I had with any sort of media related to it was so negative. The next day I went out and bought the film that I was so reluctant to purchase months before. I watched it. The magic and spirit that had been missing from me came back in such a large rush that I am still recovering from the overwhelming excitement of the theme-park opening next month. I forgot how great it was to be a Harry Potter fan.

Imagination and childhood sense of wonderment are such a vital part of my life that sometimes I just don't know how I get by on a normal lifestyle. We should never forget what it's like to be a little kid discovering different worlds in books, movies, even videogames for the first time. To discover characters that can do things you see in your wildest fantasies. Characters you wish you were. Characters who are your greatest heroes. Harry Potter has been the series that provides this and so much more for so many people. I am so happy to be amongst them.

I once again found myself running around my house pretending to cast spells and just willing to give anything to live in a world where I can live out my wildest fantasies.

What now?

For the first time in a while I have found myself without any brand-new, hot-off-the-shelf video-game to play through. The sensation is quite relaxing. Now, I can focus on all my scholarly endeavors... or I can just go back and play some older titles. I've also recently taken up the position of Comic reader to complete my trifecta of geekiness. For those unaware, the trifecta consists of a healthy dose of video-games (preferably of the R.P.G./ fantasy genre), hit t.v. shows (again, usually your usual sci-fi stuff) and graphic novels of any variety. Take these 3 bases and toss in some tech-fetishry for good measure and you have got yourself a run-of-the-mill geek. We like to think of ourselves as an advanced form of the classic nerd. So pretty much we don't wet ourselves at the though of social hang-outs and we're also very snappy dressers.

Anyways, I'm rambling. So what game shall I indulge in? Let's see here... ah Uncharted 2! Critically-acclaimed and pretty to boot! So I guess until later this month when Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes out I'll just sit back and do a bit of trophy-huntin' and the-- ah crap, an update.
